Yayasan Mahija Parahita Nusantara together with Frestea continues to support recycling heroes in the grateful month of Ramadan. This form of support is by distributing 1,000 basic food donation packages and 7,520 iftar packages for recycling heroes (informal waste sector workers) and underprivileged families in 23 locations in Indonesia. This activity has been going on for 3 years as a form of Mahija and partners' commitment to support the sustainability of the circular economy.

"As a Non-Profit Foundation that plays an active role in supporting the circular economy, Mahija Parahita Nusantara places the recycling hero community as an important part of a sustainable economy. For this reason, Mahija with various corporate partners including with Frestea, continues to be committed to providing support for recycling heroes so that they can get a better life, especially during the holy month of Ramadan." said Suharji Gasali, Vice Chairman of the Mahija Parahita Nusantara Foundation.

Recycling heroes are at the forefront of the circular economy especially during Ramadan, when waste volume increases by 20%. Therefore, paying attention to the waste collection community and poor families is expected to help them get through Ramadan well.

Suharji Gasali added, "Mahija currently has 2 plastic bottle waste collection centers in Medan since 2021, with support from 90 local collection partners. Every month around 80 tons of PET plastic bottle waste is collected, which is then recycled by PT Amandina Bumi Nusantara into plastic ore that is safe for food and beverage packaging. This effort not only helps in handling waste in Medan City, but also encourages a circular economy by turning waste into useful resources."

In addition to support during Ramadan, Mahija Parahita Nusantara Foundation is also engaged in helping recycling heroes through education and training programs, health and nutrition programs, as well as community development and infrastructure development. Throughout 2024, Mahija is committed to providing support to recycling heroes on an ongoing basis to positively impact around 35,000 lives. In addition, Mahija also provides educational support to 7 partner schools that have 1000 students under the auspices of these adopted schools.

Triyono Prijosoesilo, Director of Public Affairs, Communication and Sustainability Coca-Cola Indonesia said, "Frestea's collaboration with Mahija is mainly in providing support to the informal worker community in the waste collection sector, as has been running during Ramadan for the past three years. It is hoped that Frestea's contribution can increase the impact of assistance to them and increase public understanding of recycling and sustainability and more partners will contribute to various programs with Mahija."

Yayasan Mahija Parahita Nusantara runs a responsible collection concept through 30 used bottle collection centers across Indonesia and is able to process 31,500 tons of used PET bottles or equivalent to 2 billion bottles annually. This success marks the company's commitment to be a key player in the global movement towards sustainability and circular economy.
