Ensuring the fulfillment of basic rights for the majority of waste pickers is an ongoing process that requires the support and coordination of various strategic partners. Therefore, Mahija had the opportunity to discuss with the Deputy Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics and the staff, with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of inclusive-collaborative approaches in the provision of population documents, which are essential prerequisites for fulfilling fundamental rights to health and education.
During the meeting, Mahija conveyed a request for support and recommendations to expedite the facilitation of population document procurement, particularly National Identity Cards (KTP). BPS expressed their full readiness to provide support and will promptly connect Mahija with the National Team for Accelerating Poverty Reduction (BP Taskin).
The meeting with BP Taskin instilled optimism in Mahija regarding the implementation of population document facilitation, which is expected to be realized in the near future. BP Taskin indicated that, in line with the President’s mandate, the government will support this initiative as part of its poverty reduction strategy. Mahija itself has collected data on 594 waste pickers who do not possess the necessary population documents, including KTP, Family Card, Adult Birth Certificate, BPJS/KIS (national health insurance), and Child Birth Certificate. Furthermore, BP Taskin also expressed interest in gaining a deeper understanding of the Mahija Mobile School during the meeting, recognizing its potential to contribute to the development of Sekolah Rakyat.
