Great Children, Strong Indonesia: Mahija’s Commitment on National Children’s Day 2025

Mahija Parahita Nusantara

In line with Mahija’s ongoing commitment to building a responsible circular economy, this year we took part in the National Children’s Day 2025 celebration through a series of concrete initiatives supporting the future of children—particularly those from waste pickers and waste worker families.

National Children’s Day is not merely an annual commemoration. It is a meaningful momentum and a reminder of every child’s right to live, grow, and thrive with dignity.

As part of this year’s national celebration, themed Great children, strong Indonesia toward Golden Indonesia 2045,” Mahija collaborated with the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection RI (KemenPPPA) and various other institutions and organizations to promote inclusion, equity, and access to education and safe developmental spaces for all children.

Playing with the Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection RI at KidZania

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, Mahija participated in the event “Playing with the Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection RI at KidZania,” held at Pacific Place, Jakarta. As part of this event, we invited 20 children from the waste picker community in Kampung Sumur, Duren Sawit, to engage in educational play at KidZania—an edutainment city that introduces various real-world professions in a miniature setting tailored for children.

The event began with an educational opening session, where the children learned essential life skills, such as proper tooth brushing techniques and how to protect themselves from potential dangers, including violence and sexual abuse—delivered in a fun, child-friendly manner. During the event, the children also had the special opportunity to meet and take photos with the Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection RI, Mrs. Arifah Fauzi. The session continued with an exploration of various professions alongside the Minister. The children experienced roles such as doctor, pilot, chef, and designer.

We believe that when a child begins to dream, it marks the start of transformational change—a step toward breaking the cycle of poverty and building a more promising life.

This event conveyed messages of unity and peace grounded in the values of Pancasila, through a rich artistic performance featuring an angklung mini orchestra, musical drama, theatre, dance, and a nationalistic oration.

The performance served as a symbol that every child, regardless of social or economic background, possesses the potential to shine and deliver powerful messages of humanity and diversity for the nation.

Advancing Inclusive Education Through the Mobile School Initiative

In the spirit of National Children’s Day, Mahija, in partnership with DBS Foundation, launched a pilot initiative titled DBS x Mahija Mobile School—a reinforcement of Mahija’s ongoing efforts to bring non-formal education directly to children from waste picker families.

Yayasan Mahija parahita nusantaraOver the next three months, employees of Bank DBS Indonesia participating as volunteers under the People of Purpose (PoP) program will serve as mentors and educators for over 100 waste pickers children in Duren Sawit (East Jakarta) and Johar Baru (Central Jakarta). Additionally, donations of learning supplies and educational toys will be distributed to children ranging from preschool to middle school age.

As an entity dedicated to improving the welfare of waste workers and their families, Mahija strongly welcomes strategic partnerships that drive greater, more sustainable impact. We believe that every collaborative effort paves the way for meaningful progress—particularly in expanding educational access and ensuring a fairer and dignified quality of life for all children.

Going forward, Mahija will remain committed to advancing our key initiatives, including the facilitation of birth certificate registration, the continued implementation of regular Mobile School programs, and the provision of scholarships for high-achieving children from waste picker communities.

We will continue to walk alongside them—creating safe and supportive spaces where children can grow, learn, and aspire to even greater dreams.
